About Swingbone
Jim Grove, Trombonist/Vocalist: Jim is a product of the jazz program at MSU under Ron Newman. He
splits his time between performing in the TC area and Cleveland, Ohio where his jazz quintet holds a 4-
year, weekly residency at The Standard and has recorded at the venerable Bop Stop. Hard bop, swinging
jazz standards and cool blues grooves are the order of the day wherever Jim is performing.
Jack Dryden, Bass: Jack graduated from the Berkley School of Music in Jazz Performance and is one of
the most in-demand bass players from Detroit to TC and all places in between. Completely versatile in
all styles of music, Jack also performs with the Traverse City Symphony Jazz Orchestra, the ever-popular
Big Fun band and the weekly Jazz Jam which you can catch at Workshop Brewing in downtown TC.
Steve Stargardt, Piano: Steve graduated from the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music with a B.S.
and B.M. in music performance. He has performed at numerous jazz festivals and is a “first-call” pianist
throughout Michigan. Steve is a gifted piano teacher and jazz educator and has arranged and directed
music shows for the Elk Rapids Rotary and TC Rotary shows and Old Town Playhouse Gala.
